Bill and I were at the Sam’s parking lot in early April of 2009, when I informed him that Wings of Joy was going out of business. His reaction surprised me, he suddenly wanted to go and see if it would be possible for us to save this landmark. This store has been providing the needs for Christians for 30 years, and it would be a shame for it to disappear.
We honestly believe that God put this on his heart. So we began our walk in faith. We believed that this was going to happen so we immediately started to look for a new location since the present location was sold to the county.
We looked at different places, and left our name with many agents. A test of our faith came when we were turned down for the third time for financial aid because of our lack of business experience. Owning our own business was something that really came out of left field. Yet, we honestly believe God wanted this store saved.
So we got on our knees, and we gave it to God. I saw his precious feet, and we knew that if this was to be a reality it had to come from Him. No other way would this be able to happen.
Two days later we received a call from one of the realtors asking if we were still interested in the location for the store. We informed them we were unable to obtain financing. They called us back and offered to give us the money we needed by adding that money to the rent. If that didn’t answer our prayer I don’t know what else could. God is amazing!
We’ve made a lot of mistakes. We are definitely learning through the fire as one of our customers informed us. We know people get frustrated with us because we can’t provide them with a large inventory. Some days I feel that all I do is apologize for not being able to have what they want in stock. We still have to pre-pay just about everything you see in the store. Yet, our distributors are quick, and we usually can get most things in within a week or so.
As challenging working in this ministry is, being here for all Christians is what matters to us. We’ve seen and heard of so many miracles! There are days where you can just feel the Holy Spirit in here. We thank God every day for allowing us this opportunity to serve Him.
